What You Need to Know Before Installing Tremco Curtainwall Sealant

Tremco’s Curtainwall Sealant is a quality product, but professionals also choose to work with it because there is minimal prep required and it allows them to work the way they need to rather than the way the product needs to. You don’t have to prime the area before applying this curtainwall sealant. Simply ensure the area you’re working with is dry, free from any dirt or debris and that any contaminants have been removed. Everything should also be solid, square and in-place. The dark grey synthetic rubber can then be applied. (Tremco Curtainwall Sealant is gunnable at -1 degree Celsius through a 3/8″ nozzle.) With coverage of 35 linear feet per 300ml cartridge (for a 1/4″ by 1/4″ joint), you won’t need much either.

Applying Curtainwall Sealant from Tremco

Unlike some other products on the market, Tremco Curtainwall Sealant works with conventional caulking equipment, so there is no need to purchase expensive equipment or lose time learning how to work it. To create a bedding for panels, rails and other metal-to-metal connections, simply lay an even bead wherever you need it. And because it won’t get a skin or dry, you don’t have to worry about waiting for it to cure. In fact, it stays firm for well over 52 days of 70 degree Celsius heat while still providing you with an elastic-like set and solid adhesion.

When you’re done applying the product and have completed your installation, Curtainwall Sealant from Tremco cleans easily will a small amount of xylene or mineral spirits. Just be sure to clean any messes or tools as soon as possible to avoid making cleanup difficult.

Tremco Curtainwall Sealant does an excellent job of curtainwall joints. That’s why we recommend it. However, you do need to be careful. First, never apply it to a damp or contaminated surface since this will affect the quality of the seal and the strength of the adhesion. You should also wear the appropriate protective gear and always work in a well-ventilated area. And if you’re unsure or have questions, there is always a help nearby.
