Tremco Proglaze Silicone Sealant - High Performance Multi-Use Sealant
Using Tremco Proglaze – What You Need to Know When Using Proglaze for Glazing, Manufacturing or Production Applications
Designed by Tremco for use in almost any weather condition, Proglaze is a rapidly curing acetoxy silicone sealant that creates a long-lasting, soft seal. This makes it an excellent material for creating cap beads, metal-to-metal joints and in various plan applications. Tremco Proglaze silicone sealant is also U.S.D.A. approved for indirect contact with edible food products. And you’ll find it quick and easy to use.
Before Buying Proglaze by Tremco
Available in 300 ml cartridges in clear, white, dark bronze, aluminum and black, Tremco’s Proglaze guns easily with standard caulking equipment. It contains some rapidly renewable resources and has been given GreenGuard certification for its low chemical emissions. And once applied, the sealant will form a skin in just 7 to 15 minutes, is tack-free in 10 to 20 minutes and cures completely in 14 days at a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius and 50% humidity.
Proglaze from Tremco will work on any joint that moves no more than 25% the width of the joint. It should also be four times the width of the anticipated movement and measure no less than 1/4″ or 6 mm. The surface should be clean, dry and sound with no finishes or contaminants that could lessen the sealant’s adhesiveness. If it needs to be cleaned, you can use a solvent, sandblasting, grinding, wire brushing or even a primer to prepare the surface. Then, install a closed cell polyethylene backer rod or adhesive backed polyethylene tape to control the sealant bead depth and prevent three-sided adhesion. Finally, allow it to dry before applying Tremco Proglaze.
Applying Tremco’s Proglaze Silicone Sealant
The bead width you’ll need will depend on the width of the joint. Those ranging in size from 1/4″ to 1/2″ wide should have a bead of equal depth. Joints greater than 1/2″ should have a bead depth equal to half the width. However, the bead should never be less than 1/4″ by 1/4″. As you apply the bead, use dry tooling to work the Proglaze into the joint. You can then use a solvent like IPA or MEK to clean up any errant solvent before it cures. You do need to be careful when using Tremco Proglaze, however.
First, never use on surfaces that will corrode when exposed by acetic acid vapors. You should also avoid using Proglaze by Tremco on joints that are damp or contaminated or on joints that will be constantly submerged in water. And like any other sealant, Proglaze can be harmful if you fail to use adequate ventilation or safety equipment.
